CHOLERA SITUATION REPORT

A. SITUATION HIGHLIGHTS
Cholera was first reported on 20th April 2023 in Kivule, Ilala Municipal Council in
Dar Es Salaam region
Reports indicate that index cases started showing symptoms on 15th April 2023,
two children (one pupil from Kivule Primary School) of the same family.
This was followed by 4 more suspects (adults, 2 Male and 2 Female) from
19th to 21st April 2023
All four cases are family members living in the same household with index
cases in Kivule ward, frem 10 street
All four cases are currently admitted at Kivule District Hospital
On 22nd April 2023, one additional case was reported from the Kivule ward,
frem 10 Street however this was a neighbour not living in the same
household as the previous six cases
On 23rd April 2023, 3 new cases have been reported in different wards (Tabata,
Ilala and Buguruni) apart from seven initial cases
As of 23nd April 2023:
Cumulative total of 10 cases have been reported
There have been no deaths recorded since the outbreak began
On laboratory and sample management:
Cumulative total of four cases tested positive for Cholera through rapid
testing
Five samples have been collected and sent to the National Public Health
Laboratory for further investigations
Three new samples were collected for culture and sensitivity on 23rd April
2023 at Amana Regional Referral Hospital
